| North Star Joins Cruise Council The International Cruise Council Australasia has added another member to its ranks – the boutique adventure cruise operator North Star Cruises.
North Star Cruises will be the 19th member cruise line for the Cruise Council, which celebrates its 10th anniversary next year. Perth-based North Star Cruises commenced operations in 1987 and is considered a pioneer of luxury adventure cruising. The company offers voyages to the Kimberley, Ninagaloo Reef, Rowley Shoals and Papua New Guinea, as well as sailings from Darwin to Cairns on its 36-passenger luxury cruise ship “True North”. Announcing North Star’s membership, Cruise Council General Manager Karen Christensen said the company’s adventure cruise programs further underlined the Council’s ongoing message to travel agents that there is a cruise available for every type of passenger. “Cruising is booming in Australia as more and more consumers switch on to the great cruise holiday options that are available to them. Our job is to make sure travel agents are also aware of the great range of cruises on offer so that they can increase their cruise sales,” Ms Christensen said. Commenting on North Star’s decision to join the Cruise Council, the company’s general manager Peter Trembath said contemporary cruising had a very broad appeal. “Big ships will always have a loyal following, but it is now also possible to enjoy 'whole of life experiences' on smaller ships that focus on destination and adventure. “This has always been the North Star formula for success and we are confident that membership of the Cruise Council will result in much greater awareness of the very different options that are now available to cruising enthusiasts."
