Philanthropy
North Star Cruises enthusiastically supports philanthropic contribution wherever possible.
Each year the True North conveys significant donations of clothing, school resources and sporting equipment to our friends in West Papua and Papua New Guinea. We endeavour to offer some of form of support to all of the villages that we visit however we expressly try to avoid any distortion of the largely idyllic lifestyles that we encounter.
In addition to delivering donated articles, North Star is sponsoring a village school and, we are also constantly vigilant with regard to humanitarian support.
We have recently provided the following assistance:
- The urgent transfer of an expectant mother to medical care.
- Alerting Australian authorities following the discovery of villages severely effected by flooding and mudslides. The Australian government subsequently provided immediate assistance.
- The diagnosis (courtesy of one of our guests) of a serious infant condition and, subsequent transfer of the patient to medial facilities.
- The discovery of a young girl suffering from horrific burns following a ‘grass skirt’ fire. North Star guests arranged the girl’s evacuation and life-changing treatment in Australia. Without this assistance, this young girl’s prospects were very bleak indeed.
Should you wish to contribute in any way, please contact Chad Avenell at chad@northstarcruises.com.au
